Project Overview
Power station maintenance requires lifting equipment that matches the facility, the components being serviced, and the maintenance team's demands. For contractors responsible for pump house maintenance, the right overhead crane needs more than sufficient lifting capacity. Lifting height, operating speed, runway arrangement, and equipment configuration all matter.
In May, Yuantai Crane supplied seven 5 ton LD single girder overhead cranes to a power station maintenance contractor in Pakistan. Six cranes have an 18 m lifting height, while the seventh has a 12.19 m lifting height. All electric overhead cranes were designed with a 13.71 m span and are equipped with MD double-speed electric wire rope hoists. The order also included 256 m of P15 rail.
For Yuantai, this project illustrates an important point: an effective crane solution starts with matching the equipment to the lifting requirements, not simply selecting a standard model from a catalogue.

Project Specifications at a Glance
The customer required seven cranes with the same rated capacity and span but different lifting heights.
| Parameter | Specification |
| Crane type | LD single girder electric overhead crane |
| Quantity | 7 sets |
| Rated capacity | 5 tons each |
| Span | 13.71 m |
| Lifting height | 18 m × 6 sets; 12.19 m × 1 set |
| Hoist type | MD double-speed electric wire rope hoist |
| Hoisting speed | 8/0.8 m/min |
| Trolley travel speed | 10 m/min |
| Crane travel speed | 10 m/min |
| Duty classification | A4 |
| Power supply | 380V/50Hz/3-phase |
| Control method | Pendant control |
| Rail supplied | 256 m of P15 rail |
The main design feature is the consistent crane configuration combined with two lifting-height options. This gives the project a common equipment specification while accommodating different vertical lifting requirements.
Designed Around Pump House Maintenance Requirements
Pump houses in power stations may contain pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical components that require periodic inspection, servicing, or replacement. Depending on the installation, maintenance work can involve lifting components clear of their mounting positions and moving them to designated service areas.
For this type of application, three questions deserve attention before a crane is selected:
- How heavy are the components that need to be lifted?
- What hook height is required to remove or install the equipment?
- What span and travel coverage are available within the building?
Our solution for this Pakistan project was a series of seven LD single girder cranes, each rated at 5 tons with a 13.71 m span. The lifting heights were specified separately: six units at 18 m and one at 12.19 m. This configuration provides different vertical lifting capabilities without changing the rated capacity or span across the seven units.
For maintenance contractors, this distinction matters. A crane with adequate capacity may still be unsuitable if its hook cannot reach the required position or lift a component clear of surrounding equipment. Confirming lifting height and available clearance at the design stage helps avoid a mismatch between the equipment and the intended application.
The final crane selection must also account for the load dimensions, lifting accessories, removal path, and the supporting structure. These factors are especially important when planning equipment replacement in an existing power station.

MD Double-Speed Hoists for More Controlled Lifting
All eot cranes are equipped with MD double-speed electric wire rope hoists, with hoisting speeds of 8 m/min and 0.8 m/min.
The two speeds offer greater flexibility during lifting operations. The higher speed supports routine vertical movement, while the lower speed allows operators to position loads more gradually when the task requires greater control.
This can be useful when handling pump and motor components that must be raised, lowered, or aligned carefully. Instead of relying on a single hoisting speed for every stage of the operation, the operator can select the appropriate speed for the task.
The trolley and crane travel speeds are both 10 m/min. The trolley moves the suspended load across the crane span, while the crane travels along the runway. Together, these movements provide horizontal positioning within the designated operating area.
For a power station maintenance project, the goal is not simply to move a load quickly. The equipment should support the planned lifting procedure and allow operators to handle components appropriately.
Matching Duty Classification, Controls, and Power Supply
Yuantai 5 ton overhead cranes supplied for the Pakistan power station have an A4 duty classification. This specification was evaluated against the expected operating frequency, load spectrum, and maintenance requirements of the application.
For buyers planning a similar crane system, we recommend describing how frequently the equipment will operate and what types of loads it will handle. This gives the engineering team a better basis for checking the required duty classification rather than selecting it based on capacity alone.
All seven cranes use pendant control, with a 380V/50Hz/3-phase power supply. Pendant control provides a straightforward operating arrangement for the specified application.
We also recommend confirming the available power supply and relevant electrical protection requirements before production. For retrofit and maintenance projects, checking the existing electrical system early helps avoid unnecessary changes during installation.
One Project Scope: Seven Cranes and 256 m of P15 Rail
In addition to the overhead cranes, we supplied 256 m of P15 rail.
For contractors managing equipment procurement, coordinating the crane and rail supply can simplify communication between the equipment supplier, engineering team, and installation contractor.
For similar power station projects, we recommend confirming the following before finalizing the supply scope:
- Crane span and runway dimensions
- Rail specification and supporting structure
- Required lifting height and available headroom
- Electrical supply and control requirements
- Division of responsibilities between the crane supplier and local installation team
Why Work with Yuantai Crane for Projects in Pakistan?
Pakistan is an established market for our crane business. Over more than a decade of market development, we have gained experience serving customers in the country and developed dedicated cooperation with local distributors.
Experience in the Pakistani market
Our long-term presence in the market helps us understand the practical requirements of industrial crane procurement. We work with customers to clarify the application, confirm technical specifications, and define the supply scope before production.
Local distributor cooperation
Our dedicated distributor partnerships provide an additional channel for customer communication and project coordination. Depending on the project and the support required, local cooperation can help customers communicate their needs and follow up on technical questions more efficiently.
Responsive technical communication
Crane projects often involve several details that need to be confirmed before a quotation can be finalized, including lifting capacity, span, hook height, duty classification, power supply, and runway arrangement. We aim to respond promptly and clarify outstanding information so customers can move their projects forward.
Customized configurations
Not every power station or pump house has the same layout. We can review project drawings and operating requirements to assess suitable crane configurations, including lifting height, hoist type, travel speeds, controls, and specified rail requirements.
What Other Power Station Contractors Should Consider
If you are planning a pump house upgrade, maintenance facility, or power station project in Pakistan, we recommend preparing the following information before requesting a quotation:
- Maximum load: The weight and dimensions of the heaviest component, including applicable lifting accessories.
- Lifting height: The required hook height and the clearance needed for equipment removal or installation.
- Span and runway: Building dimensions, runway drawings, or available site measurements.
- Operating conditions: Expected lifting frequency and required duty classification.
- Electrical requirements: Available voltage, frequency, phase, and relevant environmental protection requirements.
- Supply scope: Whether you need complete overhead cranes, electric hoists, crane kits, or crane steel structures.
If drawings are available, sharing them at the beginning of the discussion can help us assess the application more accurately.
