Project Overview: 1 Ton kbk workstation crane for Precision Engineering
Yuantai Crane supplied a 1 ton rigid KBK crane system for a precision engineering service provider in the United States. Designed for precision component processing, the system provides localized lifting coverage along the production area while keeping the workshop floor accessible for machining and other operations.
The project required a compact crane structure, a suitable electric chain hoist, and an electrical configuration compatible with the customer's available power supply. Based on these requirements, we supplied a rigid single girder KBK crane with manual bridge and trolley travel.

Rigid KBK vs. Flexible KBK: Which Is Suitable for Precision Engineering?
KBK crane systems are commonly used in workshops where lifting equipment needs to fit the production layout without requiring a conventional heavy overhead crane structure. Rigid and flexible KBK systems offer different structural arrangements, so the appropriate choice depends on the installation conditions and lifting requirements.
| Comparison | Rigid KBK System | Flexible KBK System |
| Structural design | Uses rigid track components | Uses a flexible track system |
| Typical layout | Suitable for defined runway layouts and supported lifting areas | Suitable for layouts requiring greater flexibility in track arrangement |
| Movement characteristics | Depends on the selected track, trolley, bridge design, and installation | Depends on track configuration, suspension, trolley design, and installation |
| Workshop planning | Suitable when support positions and runway geometry are clearly defined | Useful when the layout calls for a more adaptable track arrangement |
| Configuration | Selected according to load, span, runway, and support conditions | Selected according to load, track layout, suspension, and support conditions |
| Key selection factor | Structural layout and required lifting coverage | Track flexibility and required lifting coverage |
A rigid KBK system is a suitable option when the workshop has a defined support layout and a clear lifting area. A flexible KBK system may be preferable when the installation requires a different track arrangement or greater layout adaptability.
Rigid KBK Crane Configuration for Precision Component Processing
Six-Column Support Structure for an 18.3 m Runway
This project features a rigid KBK crane system supported by six columns, with three on each side of the runway. The adjacent columns are spaced 9.15 m apart on each side, forming the support layout for the 18.3 m runway.
The rigid KBK structure provides a defined lifting area for precision component processing, with a compact 2.86 m crane span to suit the workshop layout.
1 Ton Electric Chain Hoist with Manual Travel
The light workstation crane is equipped with a 1,000 kg hook suspension electric chain hoist, offering a lifting height of 2 m and a lifting speed of 3.4 m/min. The operator controls lifting and lowering electrically, while the trolley and bridge travel manually.
This combination provides powered lifting without adding powered horizontal travel where it is not required. It is a practical solution for handling components within a defined work area.
Customized Electrical Supply for the US Market
To match the customer's specified power supply, the crane is configured for 208 V, 60 Hz, single-phase power, with pendant control and a flat-cable power supply system.
Electrical requirements can vary between markets and workshop facilities. Yuantai Crane reviews voltage, frequency, phase, and control requirements against each project's specifications to help ensure the selected configuration suits the customer's local power supply.
M3 Working Duty and Pendant Control
The 1 ton crane is specified with an M3 working duty classification and pendant control. This arrangement allows the operator to control the hoist directly from the pendant and is configured around the lifting requirements defined for this project.
By combining a rigid KBK structure, electric lifting, manual horizontal travel, and a project-specific electrical configuration, the system provides a practical lifting solution for precision component processing.

Recommended KBK Crane Solutions for Precision Engineering Applications
At Yuantai Crane, we recommend KBK crane configurations based on the workshop layout, workpiece weight, lifting height, travel distance, and operating frequency. The following options cover common lifting requirements in precision engineering workshops.
Option A: Single Girder KBK Crane with One Electric Chain Hoist
Suitable for: Machine loading, component handling, inspection, and assembly.
For lifting tasks within a defined work area, a single-girder KBK crane with one electric chain hoist is often a practical choice. Manual bridge and trolley travel can be sufficient when loads only need to move short distances.
Our US project is one example: a 1-ton rigid KBK crane with a 2.86 m span, an 18.3 m runway, a 2 m lifting height, and manual horizontal travel. The electrical supply was customized to 208 V, 60 Hz, single-phase.
Option B: KBK Crane with Powered Travel
Suitable for: Frequent transfers between workstations or longer travel distances.
If components move repeatedly between machining, inspection, and assembly stations, powered bridge travel, powered trolley travel, or both may be worth considering.
We recommend selecting powered movements according to the actual workflow. For example, powered bridge travel may suit transfers along a production line, while powered trolley travel helps position loads across the bridge.
Option C: KBK System with Two Hoists
Suitable for: Long or specially shaped components requiring two lifting points.
When a workpiece cannot be handled appropriately from a single lifting point, a two-hoist arrangement may be suitable. Hoist capacity and positioning should be selected according to the load distribution and lifting-point locations.
If both hoists need to lift and lower together, the synchronization method and control requirements must also be specified. Sharing the workpiece dimensions and lifting-point layout helps us assess the appropriate configuration.
Option D: Freestanding KBK Crane System
Suitable for: Workshops without suitable building structures for crane suspension.
A freestanding KBK system uses dedicated columns instead of relying on the existing building structure for suspension. Consider it when overhead support is unavailable or you prefer an independent lifting structure.
The column layout and foundation design should suit the required lifting area and site conditions. A workshop layout drawing or site photos can help us recommend a suitable arrangement.
These recommendations are a starting point. The right configuration depends on your specific lifting requirements and installation conditions. Send us your required capacity, lifting height, span, runway length, travel method, and power supply. Drawings or workshop photos will help us recommend a suitable solution.
Applications of KBK Cranes in the US Precision Engineering Industry
Precision engineering workshops may handle metal components, machined parts, tooling, fixtures, and assemblies that need to be moved between production stages.
Potential applications include:
- CNC machining: Loading and unloading suitable workpieces or fixtures around machining centers.
- Precision component inspection: Moving components to inspection tables or measurement stations.
- Assembly operations: Positioning parts for assembly and fitting.
- Tool and fixture handling: Moving compatible tooling between storage and workstations.
- Small-part production lines: Transferring components between adjacent production stages.
- Maintenance work: Lifting compatible machine components during planned servicing.
Why Choose Yuantai Crane for Your KBK Project?
At Yuantai Crane, we configure lifting equipment around the customer's application, installation layout, and technical requirements.
Application-Based Configuration
We review the load capacity, span, runway length, lifting height, travel method, and support arrangement to develop a configuration suited to the intended lifting area.
