This overhead crane project was initiated by a Pakistani engineering contractor engaged in multiple industrial construction and equipment integration projects.
The client was introduced to Yuantai Crane by one of our long-term cooperative customers in Pakistan, who had previously completed successful crane installations using our European standard solutions.
This local reference played a key role in establishing trust at an early stage, allowing both parties to move quickly into technical discussions and solution development.
Client Requirements and Site Conditions
The workshop structure had already been completed, requiring the 5 ton overhead crane to fit precisely within fixed building parameters. The contractor emphasized reliability, safety, and ease of operation for long-term end-user use.
Key requirements included:
Rated load: 5 tons
Span: 24 ft
Lifting height: 16 ft
Smooth and precise operation with minimal load swing
Low-maintenance design suitable for industrial environments
Flexible control methods for different working scenarios
A stable power supply system to support frequent daily operation
As a contractor, the client also prioritized a solution that was standardized, proven, and easily replicable for future projects.
Technical Communication & Power Supply Strategy
Initial Consideration: Traditional Festoon System
At the early stage, the client considered using a traditional C-track festoon cable system, mainly due to the lower initial cost and familiarity from previous projects. This solution is commonly applied in light-duty or low-frequency crane applications.
Optimized Engineering Proposal: Combined Power Supply System
After evaluating the actual operating frequency, traveling length, and long-term maintenance expectations, Yuantai Crane proposed a combined power supply configuration, integrating:
C-track festoon cable system for european electric hoist and auxiliary movements
Seamless conductor rail system for the main crane traveling power supply
This hybrid solution balances flexibility, power stability, and lifecycle cost, and is widely adopted in European standard overhead cranes for medium-duty industrial applications.
Key advantages of the combined system:
Stable current transmission for VFD-controlled motions
Reduced mechanical resistance during crane traveling
Lower wear compared to a full festoon system
Improved long-term reliability and maintenance efficiency
After reviewing the technical comparison and reference applications, the engineering contractor approved this configuration as the final solution.
Control mode: Pendant control + wireless remote control
Customer Feedback After Installation
After commissioning, the client confirmed that the crane operated smoothly, quietly, and with high positioning accuracy, fully meeting production requirements.
The contractor specifically highlighted the advantages of the combined power supply system, noting improved stability compared with traditional full festoon systems, as well as cleaner installation and lower maintenance expectations.
Based on this experience, the customer expressed interest in reusing the same European single girder crane configuration in future projects.
